Explain It Now

Providing everyday analogies to simplify complex concepts in business

A clear mission

The Explain It Now series has a clear mission: providing everyday analogies to simplify complex concepts in business.

Each book in this series is aimed at a particular field or specialism within different business areas.

We’ve all been there, trying to explain a complex concept to someone who doesn’t work in our field. Reaching – straining! – for some simplicity, we wrestle with the detail and the jargon.

How to explain? Simple: you use an analogy.

An analogy is like a translator for tricky ideas. It takes a concept that might seem like a puzzle and solves it by using pieces you already recognize. Why do analogies work so well? Our brains love to make connections. When we learn something new, our brains link it to something we already know. This makes the information easier to understand and remember. Analogies create these links.

Thousands of analogies

We're creating thousands of everyday examples in this series of books to help explain tricky ideas in simpler terms. It’s like having a huge toolbox, with each tool ready to help in a different situation.

For example, working in IT, you might use the analogy of a desk to explain RAM (Random Access Memory). It’s like a desk in a shared office space where you lay out all your work. The bigger the desk, the more you can do at once. But when you leave for the day, the desk gets cleared off.

These books are here to help you make things clearer, whether for colleagues, customers, clients, students, or even yourself. By using analogies, you’re building bridges of understanding, and making the complicated feel simple and familiar.

Right now, we're still developing the series so stay tuned for more books covering more areas!
