About Explain It All

“Sorry, tell me one more time? I still don’t understand.”

We’ve all been there, trying to explain a complex concept to someone who doesn’t work in our field. Reaching – maybe straining! – for some simplicity, we wrestle with the detail and the jargon.

And so, after years of seeing and hearing these challenges to communication, Alex, who has developed the concept behind the 'Explain It All' series, realised there is a real need for books like these; ones that translate the complex to the simple. How?

Analogies. An analogy is like a translator for tricky ideas. It takes a concept that might seem like a puzzle and solves it by using pieces you already recognise.

Why do analogies work so well? Our brains love to make connections. When we learn something new, our brains link it to something we already know. This makes the information easier to understand and remember. Analogies create these links.

In each of these books, we're putting together hundreds of examples from the business world to help explain tricky ideas in simpler terms. It’s like having a huge toolbox, with each tool ready to help in a different situation.

For example, you might use the analogy of a desk to explain RAM. It’s like a desk in a shared office space where you lay out all your work. The bigger the desk, the more you can do at once. But when you leave for the day, the desk gets cleared off.

This book is here to help you make things clearer, whether for colleagues, customers, clients, students, or even yourself. By using analogies, you’re building bridges of understanding, and making the complicated feel simple and familiar.

Never get that ‘blank face’ looking at you again.
